The Scope
The workshop will bring together scientists using infrared and Raman spectroscopic techniques for the characterization and differentiation of intact microbial, plant, animal or human cells to promote exchange of ideas, experiences, and practical problem solutions. Following the lines of our last workshops in Berlin, major points of discussion will be the progress in vibrational spectroscopic research, recent applications in various fields of microbiology, and new technological developments.

    Topics to be included:

    • Medical, food, pharmaceutical, and environmental microbiology
    • Epidemiological studies, maintenance of culture collections, therapy control, investigation of infection chains, hygiene control
    • Microbiological analysis in the pharmaceutical, food, and water supply industries, and in biotechnology
    • Microspectroscopic characterization of microbial microcolonies, single cell analysis
    • Heterogeneity of microbial habitats and biofilm production
    • Cell/drug interaction, resistance development and testing
    • New trends in spectral data analysis of complex biological structures
Program structure
The workshop will be organized along two days of lecturing (15 to 30 minutes for each talk), discussion, and poster presentations.
Please, do not forget to registrate early! (see registration form)
Abstracts (in English) are required for lecture and poster presentations.
Deadline for abstract submission: August 31st, 2007
All abstracts should be sent by e-mail in the format MS Word for Windows (don't use MS Word for Macintosh!).
Please, send abstracts as an attachment.
Please prepare abstracts on one page in the following form:
Title of the Lecture and Poster Times New Roman, bold, italics, 14 pt centred
<one line skipped> 14 pt
Name of the author(s) Times New Roman, 14 pt, centred
<one line skipped> 12 pt
Institution, Address Times New Roman, 12 pt, centred
<one line skipped> 12 pt
The name of the author who will present the paper should be underlined. The whole abstract should fit into a 160 x 245 mm, portrait-oriented rectangle (paper format: 210 x 297 mm = DIN A4). The upper and left margins should be set to 25 mm. The text of the abstract should be single spaced and typed with a Times New Roman font, 12 pt.
Abstracts of all lectures and posters will be published in an abstract booklet available at the registration desk of the workshop and will be published after the workshop in the internet.
